Google Gemini Is Back

 Google is advertising its AI system (Gemini) heavily on "X" (formerly Twitter) with the following spiel: "The Gemini era is here, bringing the magic of AI to the tools you use every day."  https://x.com/Google/status/1790455194485981275


But the comments underneath the above ad show a great deal of skepticism from the public after Gemini's previous gaffes.




Obviously this is not a scientific poll to determine the public's view of Gemini or Google as a whole, but certainly a significant number of people  are fed up with Google.


Oddly, Gemini still is not allowed to produce images - the main feature which produced so much public wrath some months ago - so it's not clear why Google is heavily promoting Gemini now, before this basic feature has been re-enabled.

Longstanding problems with Windows

 Among the problems that Microsoft still has not fixed in the Windows operating system after all these decades: * Copying a bit of text on a long line within a wordprocessor such as Windows Word Pad is needlessly torturous, because if your mouse cursor happens to stray even one pixel outside of the long line of text, it ends up highlighting text on the line above or below. It often takes me so long to copy only the snippet I need that it's actually faster to just manually type the entire thing out from scratch. This is easily fixable. * In Word Pad, when you load a new file the file selection window defaults to some senseless directory that I never use rather than the directory in which the current file is located. Surprising Development At Wikipedia

 I was surprised to see (a bit late) that GeneralNotability had resigned from the Arbitration Committee.
